I watched a bit of a news article on television showing how some new law in Alabama is going to force illegal immigrants to leave - and not only is that removing 1/4 (did they say 1/4?) of kids from the school they used as an example - but the local farms are suffering 'cause they're losing a lot of their workers. I turned off the tv after about 2 minutes. The last piece I heard was that the farmers would like to hire legal immigrants or Americans but that nobody wants those jobs. This makes me so mad. I am so mad.
Why - what is this new law they mentioned? I'll look it up.
Why don't people think about these things before being stupid!? hello! The immigrants (legal and otherwise who are simply trying to feed their dang kids and leave the drug-entrenched, dangerous parts of their own countries) are NOT stealing jobs that WE want! 'We' being blue, white and pink class of workers in the U.S. who whatever class we belong to we don't want to work on farms or slaughter cows in meat factories.
Why?
Why are we being insane and kicking these people out?
pisses me off
i'm gonna go cry.
After I go to a church activity.
Cherio!

Okay - I am finally reading the text of their law: http://latindispatch.com/2011/06/09/text-of-alabama-immigration-law-hb-56/
And a) I don't like it
b) I'm falling asleep WAY before the end of it. So I'll have to pick it up again tomorrow.
c) I don't really like it
d) Why don't we let them in?
e) I don't know know anything about politics or money - but the people I've met that 'shouldn't be here' SHOULD be here - and they're not sucking any life out of our rich system as far as I'm aware. I'm glad they're here. They feel more like family to me than most people I've met. I'd love to sponsor 'em, but I don't have the money to do that.. So let's make it legal for decent wonderful folks to move into our country. Then I can learn to cook, and put on some weight, and have friends that actually call me.
k - i'm so tired I'm going to pass out. So ciao. ;D

Amen sister!
ReplyDelete;) Hi Izzy,
ReplyDeleteI was talking to Cody about it just now - and he said he went and looked at the law that people are complaining about and the news stories are reporting things incorrectly. That is some comfort.
I also like that the general sentiment of the population (against the incorrect information about the law) seems to be a feeling of "we won't tolerate this." So that seems cool, too.
Now all we need is to fix the source of the problem and let all the good people in legally so we can all get along - and we should also pay them better for the crummy jobs that we don't want to do.
I love this political side of you.
ReplyDeleteYou have such passion.
I agree with you.
Why don't we just make them all legal? The sad thing is....if they were all white Canadians, we probably would without hesitation.
I think it's probably a racism thing.
That's an interesting thought you pose about what if they were all white Canadians. I don't know if it would make a difference. It's possible it would. But maybe it wouldn't.
ReplyDeleteI have heard horror stories about people from developed countries immigrating entirely legally to this country yet being hounded (for no reason) by immigration services.. And it sounded like a pretty awful story - the bits I heard. And ridiculous. I mean why? why? And why for people who came here legitimately?
Sometimes I wonder why our tax dollars are being spent on this.
Shouldn't we just put more money into .. i don't know - farms or something? something useful. Making food is useful. It tops my list on useful. Second to that is making houses. Grow food, make houses.
I do wonder if it's a racism thing. I'm not sure it is, but it might be. I did laugh a WHOLE lot the last time the census forms came around. Seems they asked like 5 times if people were hispanic or latino. I'm probably remembering it wrong - but it seemed like they asked if people were Caucasion, Hispanic, or Other. heheh
;/
..
unrelated...sorry. but have you seen JESUS CAMP- it's an indie american doco...pretty interesting, and definitely a bit political...just wondering what you think of it and if you identify...
ReplyDeletehm. That documentary is longer than 5 minutes. It isn't holding my attention very well. I'll look at it again later... It kind of scares me a little bit, incidentally. But if I watch a decent amount of it to give feedback, I'll just email you. :)
