Tamales

After watching once my friend show me how to make tamales, and I won't follow her recipe exactly, I am going to try them on my own today (and tomorrow).  It's such a lot of work, I don't know that I will complete it all in one day (you know how little attention span / energy I have  ^^ )

Will keep you posted.   Hope they turn out and then I can make them for Christmas treats maybe this year.  ;)

Our soccer game that we attended the other evening was marvelous.  I don't think I can settle now for sitting anywhere other than the amazing seats we enjoyed this game.  It was a lot of fun to watch the game up close and in person and to have Cody explain all the soccer rules, some of which I still don't understand.  Cody and I left for food early in the first half.  What are the odds of missing a goal being scored in any given soccer game?  Close to nil.  But we managed to do it.   hah!    hilarious.!  Wonderful fun.  It was also fun to know that we could be hit in the face any time with a soccer ball - so we had to pay attention (although we did not always pay attention to where the ball was).  Incidentally, it's hard to keep track of a ball sometimes.   For me, it is almost impossible to keep track of a ball when I'm watching an american football game.  Soccer is easier for me to follow - however I still can lose track at times.
The good news is, we weren't hit in the face at any time during this match.
p.s.  Our team won (after losing the previous 4 games)
p.p.s.  I'm not a fan of this trend of "booing" the opposing team.  I can see cheering for one's own team and maybe NOT cheering as loudly for the other.  But let's all be positive, okay?  Coolio.   =D   I mean - there are a lot of good plays out there by both teams.  Lots of skill to be admired and enjoyed - why not cheer that on both sides??   Is it less admirable on the other side?  No.  So there's my soapbox.

Now to relax today and play in the kitchen.

I feel a bit foolish posting this twice (once here and once on facebook) - but for some reason I'm doing it this way this time.  I wouldn't have to if Zhen would just join the herd.  =PP

Oh - they turned out fairly well.  Masa needs more flavor, but 4 out of 5 family members actually ate this  ;D

  3. hahahah

why do you have that herd comment here? You are so funny, you know that? that's hilarious.

umm.. They are corn flour (mixed with chicken broth), and chicken with spices (chiles, garlic, onion, cloves, etc) wrapped in corn husks and steamed. ;D
The recipe traditionally calls for lard (and my girlfriend, bless her soul, used a bunch of it in her own). But I skipped the lard and they taste fine. I thought about cooking bacon and using the drippings thereof. Cody shot down that idea. ;/
Don't he know bacon and chicken go well together? But he said that is a really expensive way to get lard.
    hah!
And I don't know why he laughed... ..^^
