Friday:
Made it to our first choir rehearsal at Julie's school. Noticed after about 15 minutes that I hadn't really* introduced myself to the director. I did say "hi." But I don't think she caught that I was one of her pianists. So 15 minutes into the rehearsal I stood up and walked over and shook her hand and introduced myself.
And I made a friend all the while; we talked the whole hour.
I'm thrilled to state that I did not ask for her phone number. We might play volleyball together, though, if I get off my lazy duff and head to practices, which apparently started yesterday.
In other news... I made my second batch of tamales. Cody says they're much better than the first - and he didn't even have to salt them. ;D
The down side to this story is that although the tamales survived unscathed, the pan I used did not. It's not the first time I've burned things in that pan, though, so it'll be okay, I guess.
They take forever to cook. This was at least 3 hours. How annoying. ;/
You won't see ME making a living cooking tamales for people.
I'm not even sure I want to make them for Christmas.
::sigh::
We also pulled a "let's all stay up late tonight" this evening. Six year old didn't make it. Here he is, sound asleep in front of his computer game. ^^
Saturday:
I'm still in love with comediennes. I thought I was in love with Emma Thompson (I'm not super familiar with her career - but I think she counts as a comedienne), and then I started reading one of Ellen's books this afternoon (after loving Nora Ephron two days back). I just can't choose between them. They're all marvelous. I was in tears reading two parts of The Funny Thing Is... Allow me to quote a bit of what brought me to tears (marvelous).
I'm too lazy to type most of it. Here it is - page 28 - from the "Hug, Kiss, or Shake Hands" Situation.
There - that was much easier than typing. That's from Google Books, btw. I figure it's legalish to snap a picture of one page since it's right there at Google. So that's the part (the last paragraph there) that had me in tears. I suppose it's only that funny to me b/c the subject matter was of interest to me. Otherwise, it wouldn't be nearly as funny... :)
I also like her prologue where she talks about what she would put in a book that's like all the other books out there about how to live a good life, and so on. A lot of that had me in stitches, too.
=)
Hope you are well.
Alex, if you read this, I dreamed last night that you were drunk at church. I also dreamt I was in a game of Bubble Bobble in church and that letters were floating down from the sky and I had to decide which ones to collect and which ones to let my son have (we play a lot of Bubble Bobble every day).
Zhen, I dreamt that I went to JJ's blog and he had a long list and you were listed like 20 times on it. I'm too shy to mention that on your blog. But I wasn't surprised (in that dream) that you were on his list so much.
hah!
hope that don't offend anyone.
Night kiddies,
- H.O. !
Try not to goof off in church tomorrow...

3 hours for tamales? Seriously? I won't be making those. =)
ReplyDeleteI like Ellen. I like the book page you illegally copied ; )
ReplyDeleteI'm joking. I'm sure that's kosher.
Glad your Tamales worked out great. It does sound exhausting.
Are you talking about Emma Thompson the British woman. Or someone else?
Yep, Izzy. 3 hours for steaming - and that doesn't include the 2+ hours prep (cooking the meat).. No wonder my friend makes them only at Christmas time. I'm thinking that's a bit much for me, though. Do you know that last year we didn't do anything for Christmas for passing out treats to neighbors? horrible slacker people. kind of funny.
ReplyDeleteYes Dina - the British actress. Isn't she divine? I adore her. I've been watching Stranger Than Fiction all week and I haven't got tired of it yet. I think we really need to buy a copy and add it to our collection.
It's right up there with The Saint, among my favorite movies. My favorite romances - The Saint and Stranger Than Fiction. And now you know.
Ellen is divine, too. So many talented funny women. Gotta love it.
uh - I gotta go help Jack. he's eating cat food. :?
Ellen makes me laugh so much. I'm not even particularly interested in the topic above and it was still funny.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what it would be like to be drunk.
Alex, just stay up late - I think it's the same thing. ^^
ReplyDeleteand yes, she is very funny. I'm having fun reading the rest of the book. I'm gonna have to look up her other book(s). Sure to be fun.
